What are plug plants?

A plug plant is a general term for seedlings or rooted cuttings that have been started in trays of individual cells. Botany Bay Nurseries, Plant Centre & Wildlife Shop grow over 200 different varieties of hanging basket plug plants.

How are plug plants grown on our nursery?

Plug plants are either propagated on our own nursery from seed or cuttings. Botany Bay's modern nursery is very sophisticated, we operate the nursery with two environmental computers, the computers monitor humidity, light levels and temperature. Botany Bay offers plug plants in our Plant Centre from the middle of March.

What happens next?

In order to give your plug plants the best possible start we suggest that you follow these simple instructions.

• Lightly water your plants with a watering can and rose or stand the plants up in 1cm of water and leave for 2 minutes.
• Don’t plant summer flowering plants out until the risk of frost has completely passed.
• Plug plants should be potted on into pots to incease their size before being planted out in the garden.
• Alternatively plug plants can be directly planted into a hanging basket.
